Ironbacks Spoil Education Day Game; Americans Salvage Split

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Americans secured a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) West Division split against the Niagara Ironbacks on Thursday afternoon, suffering a 15-3 loss in the team’s first-ever Education Day Game before earning a 7-5 victory in game two.   Game 1: Niagara Ironbacks 15, Niagara Falls Americans 3 The Americans struck first in the bottom half of the opening frame after a Ryan Stalony RBI walk. However, that would be their only run of the inning after loading the bases with one out. In the third, the Ironbacks’ offense responded, scoring four runs on four hits off Yadiel Santos. Santos took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.   Christian Mikulski drove in Alexander Graham with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, and Justin Gladfelter ripped a triple to right-center field in the fourth to score Evan Shank. Shank’s run would be the Americans’ final tally of the contest. Jackson Learner relieved Santos with one out in the fifth, but the Ironbacks erupted for a six-run inning. Niagara tacked on four more runs off Learner in the top of the sixth to push their lead to twelve. The Ironbacks finished with twelve hits and run-ruled the Americans after six innings.   The Americans managed five hits and left ten men on base in the game one loss. Game 2: Niagara Falls Americans 7, Niagara Ironbacks 5 In the second game of the doubleheader, the Ironbacks quickly took a 3-0 lead after two and a half innings. The Americans then plated runs in three consecutive frames to secure their second win of the season.   Vincent Favata got the scoring started with a pinch-hit solo homer in the third—the first home run of the season for the Americans. In the following inning, Jackson Bower delivered a two-out, two-run single, and Anthony Savino followed with an RBI single of his own.   After the Ironbacks regained the lead in the top of the fifth, Ryotaro Munakata collected his first RBIs of the year with a two-run, go-ahead single to left-center, after a Thomas Marcotte bases loaded walk. Aiden Mroz earned the win in his debut for the Americans, firing four innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout. Jase Burdon started the game, surrendering three earned runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.   David Harris went 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored. Ryan Stalony walked twice, scored twice, and stole a base.
