Big-Inning Blues: Seven-Run Inning Sinks Americans in Second Straight Loss

AUBURN, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Americans fell to the Auburn Doubledays, 10-0, in a run-

rule loss Friday at Falcon Park.

After the Americans were held scoreless in the top of the first, Auburn got on the board in the

bottom half, scoring a run on one hit.

The Doubledays added another in the bottom of the third on a base hit to left field.

That was all for Americans starter Colin Price. The outing marked Price’s seventh appearance

and fourth start of the season. He tossed three innings, surrendering two earned runs on three hits

while walking two and striking out four.

After a lightning strike in the top of the fourth caused a thirty-minute delay, the Doubledays

poured on seven runs in the bottom of the frame. Auburn stole five bases in the inning and sent

11 hitters to the plate.

In the following inning, a single up the middle and an error allowed Auburn to score another run.

Since the game was shortened to seven innings due to extreme heat, the 10-run mercy rule went

into effect after the fifth inning, allowing the Doubledays to claim the walk-off win.

Adam Weiss came out of the bullpen after Price exited and pitched one inning, allowing eight

earned runs on six hits, with three walks.

The defensive struggles continued for the Americans. Niagara Falls allowed seven stolen bases in

the contest and has now allowed 20 over its last two games. The Americans also committed two

errors, marking their 15th straight game with at least one error.

Following the loss, the Americans dropped to 9-14, while Auburn improved to 15-8 on the

season. The season series between the two teams is now tied at one game apiece.
