Batavia Barn Burner: Americans Drop Ninth Straight
BATAVIA, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Americans took a 6-1 lead into the fifth inning but
surrendered 16 runs over the next four frame, falling 17-8 to the Batavia Muckdogs on Thursday
at Dwyer Stadium.
Khyree Harmon made his season debut, getting the start on the mound for the Americans. The
first three Muckdogs hitters reached safely in the bottom of the first on two hit-by-pitches and a
walk. However, Harmon escaped unscathed, retiring the next three batters to strand all three
runners.
In the top of the second, Vincent Favata led off with a single to spark a rally. Favata stole second
and scored on an Anthony Savino RBI single. Following a Tyler Foxcroft RBI fielder’s choice,
the next four Americans hitters all recorded hits. Niagara Falls scored six runs on six hits in the
inning—their first time scoring six or more in a single inning since June 20, also against the
Muckdogs, when they plated nine in the second.
Batavia plated its first runs of the game in the bottom of the second, despite not recording a hit.
Harmon walked three batters and hit another in the inning, allowing the Muckdogs to cut the
Americans’ lead to 6-1.
The Americans pushed across another run in the top of the fifth after David Harris scored from
second base on a wild pitch.
The Muckdogs recorded their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, with the first three
runners reaching base safely. Batavia scored three runs in the inning on two hits, making it a 7-4
game.
In the following inning, Anthony Savino led off with a single to right center. Savino then stole
second, advanced to third, and scored on two wild pitches, making it a 8-4 game.
Khyree Harmon hit three straight Batavia hitters to lead off the bottom of the sixth. After the next
two batters walked, Harmon allowed a double that cleared the bases due to an errant throw,
giving the Muckdogs a 9-8 lead. Harmon was removed from the game after the hit. Batavia went
on to score four more runs in the inning on one hit and two errors.
Harmon tossed five innings, giving up 10 runs (seven earned) on three hits with eight walks, one
strikeout and eight by pitches. He was charged with the loss.
In the seventh, the Muckdogs scored another run on one hit and a hit by pitch.
Alex Glasscock pitched two innings, surrendering four runs (one earned) on two hits with one
strikeout. It was his first outing of the year.
Thomas Marcotte also made his first pitching appearance of the year, working in the bottom of
the eighth. He allowed three earned runs on three hits, bringing the Muckdogs’ total to 17 runs—
the most the Americans have allowed all season.
The Americans were unable to score after the sixth inning, losing their ninth consecutive game.
Anthony Savino finished 3-for-4 with one RBI, two runs and a stolen base. It was Savino’s first
multi-game of the season since the season opener on June 3 against the Niagara Ironbacks.
David Harris went 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored, extending his hitting streak to nine
games and on-base streak to 14.
Loagan Stickler also went 2-for-3, logging his first multi-hit game of the season. Matthew
Ganschow finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and two walks.
Niagara Falls finished with twelve hits, their first game with double digit hits since June 23,
against the Jamestown Tarp Skunks.
Defensively, the Americans struggled, committing three errors and allowing eight stolen bases.
With the loss, the Americans dropped to 9-21, while the Muckdogs have won their last seven
games, and now sit at 22-6. Batavia also leads the season series 5-1.
