Americans Swept in Doubleheader, No-Hit in Nightcap
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Americans dropped both games of a seven-inning
twin-bill against the Geneva Red Wings on Sunday at Sal Maglie Stadium, falling 6-4 in game
one before being held hitless in a 10-0 game-two loss.
Game 1: Geneva Red Wings 6, Niagara Falls Americans 4
The Red Wings jumped out to an early lead in the first inning of game one, scoring three runs on
three hits and two errors. Geneva scored two of those runs with two outs.
In the top of the third, a two-out triple scored two runs, extending Geneva’s lead to 5-0.
In the following frame, the Americans worked six straight walks to push across two runs.
However, CJ Snusz bounced into an inning-ending double play, ending the rally.
Geneva added another run in the top of the fifth after the Americans infield committed yet
another error. Colin Price prevented further damage by throwing out a runner from left field
attempting to score on the play.
The Americans got their first hit of the contest in the bottom of the fifth when Dominick
Zangardi singled. Later in the inning, Adam Weiss chopped a two-out, two-run single up the
middle, making it a 6-4 game. The Americans would not score again for the remainder of the
doubleheader.
Mitchell Canuel went the distance, pitching seven innings and allowing six runs (three earned)
on 13 hits, with one strikeout.
Niagara Falls managed only three hits in the game and struck out 13 times. The Americans have
now struck out 10+ times in two of their last three games.
Game 2: Geneva Red Wings 10, Niagara Falls Americans 0 (5 innings)
In game two, the Red Wings scored four runs on two hits in the top of the first, but left the bases
loaded. The Americans have now allowed at least one run in the first inning in six of their last
seven games.
Geneva added six more runs in the next inning, on three hits and one error, surpassing the ten-run
mercy-rule threshold.
Jasxyn Moritz started his second game of the year for the Americans, surrendering 10 runs (nine
earned), with five walks and two strikeouts. This marked his second loss of the year.
Jackson Learner fired three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, walking three and striking out
one.
The Americans drew three walks in the game—two by Matthew Ganschow—but did record any
hits. They also committed an error—their 18th consecutive game with at least one.
Following the doubleheader, the Americans dropped to 9-17, while the Red Wings now sits at
10-13. Geneva went 3-0 against the Americans this season.

The Americans will battle the Niagara Ironbacks tomorrow evening at George Taylor Field, with
first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Niagara Falls has won three straight against the Ironbacks, and
leads the season series, 3-2.
On Tuesday, the Americans will return home to Sal Maglie Stadium to host the Niagara
Ironbacks. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. and all guests who bring pet food will receive free
