Americans Suffer Second Setback Against Muckdogs This Week
BATAVIA, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Americans fell to the Batavia Muckdogs, 6-1, at Dwyer
Stadium on Friday night. After a first-inning single by David Harris, Colin Price drilled a triple down the right field line to give the Americans an early 1-0 lead. The hit was Harris’ sixth in his last eleven at-bats, raising his batting average to .406 on the season. However, he would later be removed from the game with a right thumb injury. Josh Kandefer, an incoming freshman at SUNY Niagara, made his first start of the season for the Americans. The Muckdogs quickly got on the board in the first after Cooper Romich smacked an RBI single. In the following inning, Kandefer committed an error on a bunt down the third base line, overthrowing first base and allowing a run to score. The Muckdogs followed with three more runs, bringing their total to four in the inning on four hits—all singles. Kandefer tossed three innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits, with two walks and six strikeouts. He also hit three Muckdogs hitters and faced nineteen in his outing. Mitchell Canuel came in for Kandefer, and faced twenty batters in five innings. In the eighth, the Muckdogs added onto their lead when Cooper Russell hit a single that scored a run. Canuel went five runs, allowing one earned run on six hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. After scoring in the first inning, the Americans were shut out over the final eight frames by the Muckdogs’ pitching corps, which leads the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) with a 3.84 team ERA. The Americans are now 0-3 against the Muckdogs this season and saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. With the loss, they fell to 6-8, while the Muckdogs won their eighth consecutive game and improved to 10-2.
