Americans Muzzle Muckdogs on Bark in the Park Night

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Behind a complete-game effort from Aiden Mroz, the Niagara Falls Americans cruised past the Batavia Muckdogs, 15-4, in a seven-inning mercy-rule rout on Saturday night at Sal Maglie Stadium. After a victory over the Americans last night at Dwyer Stadium, the Muckdogs picked up where they left off in the opening frame. A first-inning sacrifice fly gave Batavia a 1-0 lead. The Americans’ offense exploded in the second inning. After three of the first four batters reached base safely, Nick Paszt belted a grand slam for his second home run of the year. After Paszt’s long ball, Matthew Ganschow was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another run. Colin Price then laced a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-1. Xander Clark followed with a single to left field that scored two runs, but was thrown out at home after an error was made in left field. In the third, the Americans added four more runs on four walks, a wild pitch, and two hits. The four-run frame pushed the Americans into double digits for the fourth time this season and second time this week. The Muckdogs tacked on three runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and two consecutive singles, making it a 13-4 game. However, that would be all Batavia would score for the rest of the game. After a scoreless inning and a half, the Americans plated two runs via two wild pitches to put the game out of reach. Aiden Mroz went the distance, firing seven innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits, with five walks and four strikeouts. Mroz faced 32 batters in his third appearance of the season and improved to 2-0. The American offense worked nine walks and finished with seven hits. Nick Paszt went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Matthew Ganschow was 1-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. Colin Price and Xander Clark each contributed two RBIs in the win as well. The Americans’ win was their first over the Muckdogs this season, as they now trail Batavia 1-3 in the season series. The Americans improved to 7-8 overall, while the Muckdogs saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 10-3.
