Americans Held Scoreless, Lose Eighth Consecutive Game and Third Straight to Ironbacks

ST. CATHARINES, Ontario — The Niagara Falls Americans trailed 1-0 through five and a half

innings before the Niagara Ironbacks scored six runs over the next two innings to pull away for a

7-0 victory Wednesday night at George Taylor Field.

The Ironbacks plated the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first on an RBI walk, but

left the bases loaded in the inning.

Evan Kohr started on the mound for the Americans, making his first appearance of the season.

Kohr, who played for the Americans last summer, pitched just once in 2025—exactly one year

ago to the day, on July 8, 2025, against the Buffalo Diesel. In that start, he fired six innings and

only allowed one earned run on two hits, with four walks and three strikeouts.

In his start on Wednesday, Kohr tossed four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while

issuing five walks and striking out two. He was charged with the loss, the first of his career.

David Harris and Matthew Ganschow hit back-to-back singles in the fourth inning with two outs,

but both were stranded after Dominick Zangardi flew out to center.

Jackson Learner came on in relief of Kohr for his eleventh appearance of the season, tying Porter

Slattery for the team lead.

In the sixth, the first two Ironbacks hitters reached after a single and double. With runners in

scoring position and no outs, Learner recorded two consecutive strikeouts and was one strike

away from escaping the inning unscathed. However, he allowed a two-out, two-run single that

made it 3-0.

Niagara followed a two-run sixth with four more runs on four hits in the seventh. Learner

surrendered all four runs and was pulled with two outs and a runner on first. He tossed two and

two-thirds’ innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Adam Weiss got the final out of the seventh on one pitch and also pitched a scoreless eighth,

allowing no hits. This marked his third appearance of the year on the mound.

In the ninth, the Americans had bases loaded with one out but could not push any runs across.

This was the third time in the last seven games Niagara Falls was held scoreless.

David Harris finished 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, extending his hitting streak to eight games

and his on-base streak to thirteen. He is now hitting .467 on the year, good for third in the entire

Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

Matthew Ganschow went 2-for-3 with one strikeout and has now reached base safely in five

consecutive games.

The Americans fell to 9-19 on the year, while the Ironbacks improved to 14-14-1. The Ironbacks

now lead the season series 5-3 between these two clubs.
