Americans Bested in 10-Inning Tilt, Losing Streak Reaches 11

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — After tying the game with two outs in the ninth inning, the Niagara

Falls Americans dropped a 4-2 decision in extra innings to the Olean Oilers on Saturday at Sal

Maglie Stadium.

In the top of the second, with a runner aboard, Olean plated two runs on a deep fly ball to right-

field. As Xander Clark tracked the ball, he mis-stepped and injured himself, allowing the batter

to circle the bases for an inside-the-park home run and give Olean a 2-0 lead.

Following three and a half scoreless innings, Alex Glasscock and David Harris hit back-to-back

singles to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Later in the inning, Dominick Zangardi hit an RBI

single to score one run, but they could not push across another run.

Down to their final out in the ninth, Vincent Favata beat out a ground ball to third base, scoring

Matthew Ganschow to tie the game at 2-2. Favata later stole second, but that was all the

Americans could manage, sending the game to extra innings.

In the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL), all games are capped at a maximum

of 10 innings, even if the score is tied. Each team starts the 10th with a runner at second base as

well.

The Oilers pushed across two runs on three hits in the 10th—their first hits since the fifth inning.

Adam Weiss entered as a pinch runner for Niagara Falls in the bottom of the inning. However,

the Americans went down in order, leaving him stranded.

In his sixth appearance of the season, Aiden Mroz pitched all ten innings for the Americans,

allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Credited with

the loss, Mroz dropped to 2-2 on the season.

Vincent Favata went 1-for-2 with one RBI, two walks and three stolen bases. He has now

reached base safely in four straight games.

Cooper Rowell finished 2-for-4, and now has recorded back-to-back multi-hit games for the first

time this season.

The Americans had at least one runner reach into scoring position in eight of the ten innings, but

only managed to plate two runs, going 2-for-19 in scoring position.

With the loss, the Americans dropped to 9-23 and Olean improved to 12-16. The Oilers now lead

the season series 3-0.
