Americans Shutout 0-6 In Game Two of Series Against Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Niagara Falls Americans traveled to Jamestown to face off with the Tarp Skunks for the second consecutive game. Niagara Falls was unable to score in the outing, losing 0-6 and allowing the Tarp Skunks to win both of the first two games of this three-game series. The Americans fall to 24-15 while Jamestown climbs to 23-12. The teams will return to Niagara Falls to play game three of the series tomorrow.

The Americans tallied just four hits in the contest, split between two players. Chris Guzaldo batted 2-of-3 with a walk. Tommy Mathay tallied two singles across his five at bats. Allen Ramos reached 1st in three of four plate appearances, including one walk and a stolen base.

Keegan Bazinet was the first of two pitchers in the contest for Niagara Falls. Brady Toney entered in relief and finished the game, with each pitcher throwing 4.0 innings. Baznet allowed two runs, striking out one of his 19 batters faced. Toney followed up by allowing four runs, three earned, and striking out two of 21 batters.

Jamestown turned in seven hits in the matchup, with offensive output led by Ben Slanker, Branston Lindquist, and Nolan Smith. Slanker batted 2-of-3, hitting one single, one RBI double, as well as a sacrifice fly. Lindquist batted 2-of-4, driving in one run and scoring once himself. Smith drew three walks across four plate appearances, stealing one base and scoring two runs.

The Tarp Skunks also threw just two pitchers in the combined shutout. Hunter Bell pitched the first 4.0 innings before Anthony Serrano pitched the final 5.0 and earned his first win. Bell allowed two hits and two walks, striking out three. Serrano also allowed just two hits, walking three and striking out eight of his 22 batters faced.

Jamestown took the lead right from the start, scoring their first tun in the bottom of the 1st. The Tarp Skunks’ second batter, Nolan Smith, was the first to reach base, working a walk. Back-to-back singles allowed Jamestown to advance the runners, and then score. Ben Slanker hit the first single, followed by Justin Bremner, driving in Nolan Smith. 

The bottom of the 3rd saw Jamestown add their second run to the board. Back-to-back fly outs led off the inning, before Smith walked once again to reach base. Slanted batted another ball, this time a double to right center field, scoring Smith from 1st.

Jamestown added one run again in the 5th inning. Brady Toney entered to pitch to start the inning, allowed each of his first three batters to reach base. Branston Lindquist led off the inning with a single, before walks by Brady McGuire and Smith loaded the bases. Shanked continued his productive day, hitting a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Lindquist.

The Tarp Skunks scored two runs in the 6th, the only multi-run inning of the game. Brady Marshall hit a leadoff single to left field, stealing second base and then scoring from second on an Eric Weeks single up the middle. Weeks advanced to 2nd base on a groundout to the first baseman, followed by a foul out putting the second out on the board. With two outs and a runner in scoring position, Lindquist singled to right field, scoring Weeks.

The bottom of the the 8th was led off with a walk by Marshall, followed by back-to-back fly outs to right field. A hit by pitch put a second runner on base, and moved Marshall to 2nd. During the next at bat, a wild pitch allowed each baserunner to advance a base. The wild pitch was recovered by the catcher, and in an attempt to throw out an advancing runner, was thrown wild, allowing each runner to advance another base, scoring Marshall.
