Late Heroics Propel Americans to Doubleheader Split

In game two of a doubleheader at Sal Maglie Stadium, the Niagara Falls Americans edged out the Elmira Pioneers late in the game by a score of 1-0. Excellent pitching by both teams let the game's first run be scored in the bottom of the 6th inning on back-to-back doubles. The win moved the Americans to 22-13 overall this season, while Elmira falls to 17-15-1.

Just three Americans batters achieved hits in the game, adding up to five total. Gavyn Boyle batted 2-of-2 with a walk, and the game-winning RBI on a double. Tommy Mathay batted 2-of-3, hitting one double and scoring the only run of the game. Greydon Miller was the final player with a hit for the Americans, tallying one single across two at bats.

The Americans threw just two pitchers in the combined shutout. CJ Hurley pitched the first 5.0 innings, allowing four hits, walking one, and striking out four. Aiden Klimtzak, the games winning pitcher, threw the final 2.0 innings, walking just one batter, but retiring his other six batters faced.

The Pioneers tallied four hits in the contest, each by a different batter. Benjamin Rhode and Brendan Hammer each batted 1-of-1 with a walk, with Rhode additionally stealing one base. Brett Baker and Brandon Doubek each batted 1-of-3.

Robert Boing pitched a complete 6.0 inning game for Elmira. Boing allowed one run on five hits and two walks. Across 25 batters faced, Boing struck out six.

The game entered the bottom of the 6th inning before either team was able to establish a lead. Grant Moore led off the inning with a foul out to the third baseman. Hungry to break the scoreless game, Tommy Mathay put pressure on the Elmira defense by hitting a double down the right field line. Gavyn Boyle stepped to the plate next, continuing his productive day with a double to left field that scored Mathay, the game-winning run. After the back-to-back setbacks, Elmira's pitcher shut down any further scoring chances by inducing back-to-back flyouts to end the inning. Aiden Klimtzak pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th to close out the Americans' win.
